Description
The series contains 6 inch x 4 inch glass negatives in black and white produced by AeroPictorial between about 1934 and 1960
The negatives cover the numerical range C1 to C746 and this is the basis for the estimated quantity of negatives in the series. There are numerous gaps in the sequence and the actual figure is likely to be much lower. Reasons for the gaps include losses, unassigned numbers, or clients having custody of negatives.
Details of each negative are recorded in registers numbered 45, 47-49 on the register handlist (AFL03/03) and these often include date, client, location and photographer.
Archival History
AeroPictorial Ltd was set up in 1934 by Cyril E. Murrell (who had worked at Aerofilms between 1921 and 1934). The two companies were merged in 1960 when Murrell died.
