Between 2001 and 2002 English Heritage photographer Derek Kendall undertook a photographic survey of London's West End theatres. This resulted in a photographic inventory of the interiors of 50 theatres that will inform discussions about the future of these buildings at a time when pressures for radical changes within West End theatres are increasing. The survey formed the basis for the publication by English Heritage of 'Scene/Unseen: London's West End Theatres' in 2003.
