Description

Seven black and white negatives taken by the Ministry of Works showing housing associated with the former College of Aeronautics in Cranfield (now Cranfield University). The houses are located on Mitchell Road and Prince Philip Avenue. All show exterior views.

The College of Aeronautics was founded on the site of RAF Cranfield in 1946. In 1969 it became the Cranfield Institute of Technology before becoming Cranfield University in 1993.

The Ministry of Works was the Government department tasked under the 'Temporary Housing Act 1944/45' with alleviating the acute housing shortages in the immediate postwar years.

All of the negatives were catalogued in 2022.
