Identifying and Protecting Palaeolithic Remains

Archaeological guidance for planning authorities and developers

This leaflet is intended to emphasise the value of Palaeolithic remains and how they should be dealt with in the planning process. It also introduces the English Rivers Palaeolithic Survey (TERPS), the database for which is now available on ADS, and sets out criteria by which a Palaeolithic site can be judged to be of national importance.

Please note that this guidance was published in 1998 and is in need of updating, which we intend to do by 2016.
