This Historic England Advice Note seeks to provide advice on historic environment considerations as part of the Sustainability Appraisal/Strategic Environmental Assessment process. It is aimed at all relevant local planning authorities, neighbourhood groups, developers, consultants, landowners and other interested parties.
This updated guidance builds on previous versions of the document published in 2010 and 2013.
We are currently reviewing our advice in light of the changes to the National Planning Policy Framework, and will amend it, where necessary, in due course.
