North Hertfordshire Masonic Lodge (the Cloisters), Barrington Road, Letchworth - North Hertfordshire
Built in 1906-7 as a residential school of ethics and psychology based on Arts and Crafts principles. Architect WH Cowlishaw, a follower of William Morris. Highly idiosyncratic design incorporating a philosophical approach to materials with both traditional and progressive themes. Currently the North Hertfordshire Masonic Lodge, but with much of the building unused. Problems of internal and external deterioration due to rainwater penetration. In October 2022 Historic England awarded a Repair Grant for Heritage at Risk for project development work.
