Inner terrace wall, ramps and steps, north of Lowther Castle, Near Penrith, Lowther - Lake District (NP)
Sandstone terrace, turreted retaining wall and carriage ramps, built 1806 to1819 by Smirke. The structure faces the North Park in front of the castle and is enclosed by the outer terrace. The eastern carriage ramp has been repaired with a grant from Historic England, though the decorative end pier has not been reconstructed. The western ramp and much of the terrace walls remain unrepaired, with open joints and displaced ashlar blocks. Some decorative details, including urns, are missing from the site.
