Grand Stairs and Grotto 50 metres west of Shrubland Hall, Coddenham - Mid Suffolk

Part of the extensive gardens at Shrubland Hall, the staircase leads from the Balcony Garden to the Lower Panel Garden. Modelled on the gardens at Villa D'Este, Tivoli, Italy. They are known colloquially as 'The 100 Steps'. At the bottom of the fourth flight, they divide into two geometric flights under which a grotto has been formed. Vegetation is overtaking the steps and the ornate detail and the grotto is damaged. Condition is deteriorating. Historic England is working with the Local Authority to devise a scheme of repair and discussions are ongoing.
