Gatepiers, gates attached screen and lodge house. Probably early C20 by Sir
Reginald Blomfield. Squared coursed limestone and limestone ashlar with wrought
iron gates. Lodge house has Collyweston slate roof. 2 pairs of gatepiers, inner
and outer piers are linked by wall with square-head pedestrian gateway.
Horizontally channelled ashlar with arch-head niches to inner piers. Piers are
surmounted by large urns with swags and torchere finials. Inner piers have
standing figures attached to urns. Inner piers formerly linked by gates are now
linked by ashlar screen with balusters. Wrought-iron gateways to pedestrian
openings. Single-storey lodge house, attached to right, probably of 2-unit plan,
has main front facing former driveway, with central gablet and recessed porch
with columns. Formerly the main entrance to Apethorpe Palace (q.v.), modified mid
C20
