Tree house. Late C17, remodelled in mid-C18, and restored in mid-to late C20. Timber framed with rendered infil panels; pyramidal plain tile roof with finials. Small cubic single cell structure in the branches of an old lime tree; C18 remodelling in a Gothick style. Framing: tall rectangular panels and long straight tension braces; corner posts with shaped pendants. 2-light ogee-headed wooden casements to north, west and south, and ogee-headed half-glazed door to east. C20 dog-leg wooden staircase from north. Interior with C18 plasterwork, moulded dado rail, moulded architraves with brackets, clustered corner shafts with stiff-leaf capitals; coved frieze with lozenge and quatrefoil motifs and arcaded coving above; ceiling has central female mask with extending rays set within a circular panel. There are some late C20 supports to the tree house and tree. Mid-C20 photographs show the tree house stuccoed with rusticated quoins, probably dating from the mid-C18 remodelling, and contemporary with the openings and interior decoration.
