Details
BROUGHTON EAST AYNSOME LANE SD 38 SE Green Bank 2/4 Greenbank Farmhouse and Cottage II M 2 houses. Dated lintel reads: "R S/1663" (Michaelson), with later additions. Roughcast stone with slate roof. 2 storeys, 4 bays, the 1st bay forming cottage. Windows are mostly sashed with glazing bars and horns, but those to 1st bay of ground floor and 3rd bay of 1st floor have small paned fixed glazing with top-hung lights. Cottage has entrance to return of gabled porch; that to house has half-glazed door and dated lintel with flanking console brackets; porch under asymmetrical gable with 4-fielded-panel door. Gable-end stacks and large cross-axial stack. Rear has 2 gabled wings of stone rubble, that to left projects. Casement windows. Interior has stone fireplace with corbelled lintel, moulded opening and cornice. Stair has fluted square newels, turned balusters and moulded handrail; fielded panelling with flat fluted pilasters. 1st floor has original 2-panel doors. Cottage has ovolo beams, fireplace with fielded panelling over bressummer and inserted stair. Inventory of 1723 mentions new kitchen.
