House and railings. c1750. For Mr William Travis, snuff manufacturer of
Hull. Red brick in Flemish bond, pantiled roof. 3 storeys, 2-window front
under double-span roof. Ground floor: to right, a panelled and glazed door
in eared architrave under pulvinated frieze and low pediment; to left a
16-pane sash with sill under flat gauged brick arch. First floor: to the
right, a Venetian stair window, with round-headed sash with glazing bars and
radial glazing, under gauged brick arch. To the left, a 16-pane sash with
sill under a flat gauged brick arch. Second floor has two 8-pane sashes
with sills under flat gauged brick arches. Band, low coped parapet, raised
coped gables, end stacks. Railings stand on a low coped wall punctuated by
tall square piers with cornices (one replaced): two, flanking a C20 boarded
door, retain pineapple finials. This house adjoined a snuff mill, now
demolished.
