DALE STREET 1. 5113 (North Side) Longwood Fernleigh SE 1116 32/438 II 2. Mid C19. Steep pitched ornamental slate roof. Various coped gables on kneelers. 2 storeys and attics. String. Front has 2 gables separated by narrow parapeted bay with porch. West one has 3-light sash with pink granite colonettes, foliage capitals and ogee cusped lights under 2-centred relieving arch. 2-light window with colonette, foliage capitals and ogee cusped lights under 2-centred relieving arch. One sash under 2-centred relieving arch in gable end. East range has canted ground floor bay with pink granite colonette, foliage capital and impost band, cornice with grotesque animals and parapet with blind quatrefoil ornament. 3-light sash above with pink granite colonettes, foliage capitals and caernarvon arches. 2-light sash in gable with pink granite colonette, foliage capital, trefoil-headed windows, and quatrefoil in spandrel, 2-centred relieving arch. Porch up 7 steps with retaining walls: flanking buttresses, coped gable and stilted moulded arch on squat pink granite columns with Romanesque capitals. 2-light sash above, with pink granite colonette, foliage capital, transom, hexagonal tracery, 2-centred relieving arch. Another entrance with moulded arched head on east side, under 3-storey tower. 1st floor windows are paired, 2-centred, double-chamfered arches with applied pink granite colonettes. 2nd floor windows are paired, 2-centred, trefoil-headed, with quatrefoils in spandrels and 2-centred relieving arches. Moulded eaves cornice with grotesque animals at corners. All windows have hood-moulds, most with figurative label stops. Carving of grotesques and of foliage capitals is of high quality. Some geometrical ornament as well. In garden lie various incompleted blocks of sculpture, presumably for more gargoyles, finials etc.
