4/1 Cross Bank Methodist Chapel, gatepiers & gates

Methodist Chapel. 1870-80. Dressed stone with ashlar dressings. Pitched slate roof with moulded eaves cornice. 2 storeys. 5 bay hall by 4 bay gable frontage. The centre 2 bays break forward and are pedimented with supporting console brackets between which are colourful, decorative ceramic tiles. Small semi-circular light in tympanum with foliated surrounds. Vase acroteria. Windows, and the 2 central doorways are round arched and recessed with alternately coloured voussoirs and richly foliated impost bands. Detailing to central break is slightly more elaborate with grey granite colonnettes in reveals and foliated roundels in spandrels, the ground floor central roundel has carved pair of birds. Moulded cornice over doorways whicl have double, fielded panelled doors and semi-circular fanlights. Flanking windows have apron with tiled panel. Treatment of left elevation is similar. Right elevation is more plain. Continuous tiled frieze below 1st floor windows, though many tiles missing.

Broad steps with squat balustrade and carved piers. Square ashlar gatepiers with low pyramidal cap, one with vase. Iron gates, with rails with fleur-de-lys heads.
