HALTWHISTLE A69 (T) NY 66 SE (North side, off) 15/2 East Lodge to Blenkinsopp Hall II
Gate Lodge. Circa 1840. Tooled dressed sandstone, Welsh slate roof and stone chimney stacks. Main block almost square-plan with short wing on rear. Tudor style. Single-storey main block, 3-bay front. Central pair of 6-panel doors in chamfered Tudor-arched surround under hoodmould. Flanking 2-light chamfered- mullioned windows under hoodmoulds with 10-pane sashes in each light. Deep overhanging eaves forming a verandah on front and returns; front verandah on 6 thin stone posts set diagonally. Pyramidal roof has diagonally-set central stack with chamfered top band and 2 ornamental chimney pots. Slightly-shorter returns have verandahs supported on 4 posts. 2-light window on right return. Single-storey bay on rear has replaced casement in chamfered surround, moderately-pitched roof and stone rear-end stack. C20 single-storey addition on rear wing is not of special interest.
