Ruined parish church, C14. Carstone and Sandringham sandstone with limestone
dressings. Roofless. West tower, nave, chancel, south aisle and south porch.
3 stage embattled tower with diagonal buttresses, Decorated west window
of 2 lights having tracery with quatrefoil between mouchettes, Y tracery
bell openings. Two lines of former nave roofs to east face. C15 south porch
of brick with diagonal buttresses, 4-centred chamfered brick arch with
chamfered imposts, hood mould with niche above. Plain chamfered pointed
south doorway. South aisle with 2 openings (tracery lost), lancet to west,
small single light to east. Large east window to chancel with curvilinear
tracery lost, distinct junction to north between chancel and nave. North
nave with blocked arches of former 2 bay arcade, one arch containing a
3-light opening under a pointed segmental head. North doorway as south.
Interior: 2 bay arcade to south with octagonal piers and double chamfered
arches, similar blocked arcade to north. Tomb recess to east of south arcade,
similar recess arch blocked to north. Chancel arch with the width of nave
now blocked, lower part of clunch, upper of brick having a brick relieving
arch containing 2-light opening under a segmental head with reticulated
tracery. Some herringbone work in carstone to west nave, tall tower arch
with splayed jambs and moulded arch. The church is a Scheduled Ancient
Monument, Norfolk No. 225.
