Details
KNOTTINGLEY OLD GREAT NORTH ROAD SE42SE -- (east side) Ferrybridge 5/37 Old Toll House 15.3.1961 (formerly listed ast Old Toll House at Ferry Bridge) GV II Toll house, now house. Circa 1804, altered. Coursed dressed sandstone, slate roof. Cruciform plan formed by 2-unit main range at right-angles to road, with single-unit side wings. One and 2 storeys, 5 bays, symmetrical; 2-storey 3-bay canted centre has 6-panel door with 3-pane overlight, a sashed window in each side (8 panes in upper leaf, no glazing bars in lower); a deep band at 1st floor, carried out across single-storey wings, which have similar windows; 1st floor of centre has square windows, that in the centre sashed but the others altered; all these windows now have modern louvred pseudo- shutters. Centre has low-pitched hipped roof with 5-flue lateral chimney on ridge.
