19/280 New Close Farmhouse with stable, byre and lofts GV II Farmhouse, byre and lofts. Early C18 house; byre, with lofts over, late C18 and circa 1800. Sandstone rubble, roughly coursed and squared, with irregular plinth, ashlar dressings and quoins; stone-flagged roofs. 2 storeys, 2,2,3 bays; 7 bays in all. East elevation has 3-bay house at right with central 3- light stone-mullioned window. 2-light casement and 2-light horizontal sliding sash at eaves in first 2 bays; third bay blank. Stable and loft, adjoining to left has 2 bays. 2 higher storeys, with thin stone lintels over boarded door and empty window on ground floor, and boarded pitching door above. Later byre and loft at left has 2 storeys, 2 bays; plain stone surrounds to boarded door and loft door; thin wood lintel over boarded window at right; first-floor vent slits. House has large square right end chimney; left end building has low- pitched roof. Right return gable has painted stop-chamfered stone surround to boarded Dutch door. Large throughstone above; 2 courses of throughstones and 2 large throughstones below chimney. Right return gable of adjacent higher part has small square light in gable peak. Rear elevation shows one-storey extension under catslide roof.
