Details

MALBOROUGH CROSS LANE SU 1869 3/352 The Lodge II Lodge. Circa 1902, possibly by C E Ponting,architect and surveyor for Marlborough College. Flemish bond red brick with diaper work in blue brick and stone window frames. Concrete tile sprocketed hipped roof with deep eaves and wrought-iron gutter brackets. Projecting brick stack at left side with moulded brick cornice. Plan: Rectangular plan with main room on south front and behind the services and entrance on right side. Vernacular revival style. Exterior: 1 storey and attic. Symmetrical 1-window south front with moulded stone mullion 3-light window with hoodmould and leaded casements. Wide 4-light half-dormer above eaves with flat roof and moulded wooden cornice. Doorway on right hand (east) side. Interior: not inspected. Note: The lodge to Hyde Cross qv, which was built for Marlborough College house masters. The architect, C E Ponting also designed Marlborough Town Hall and Marlborough College Gymnasium qv.
