Farmhouse, now 3 dwellings (Cottage No.2 unoccupied at time of survey, 1991). Late C17, enlarged and altered in C19. Main range of coursed sandstone rubble with quoins (all white-washed) and stone slate roof; C19 addition of coursed rock-faced sandstone with Welsh slate roof. PLAN: the C17 range has a 3-unit double-depth plan (an early example at this social level), aligned approximately east-west and facing north, with an added outshut to the rear; the C19 addition is at the east end facing east. EXTERIOR: the C17 portion, a 2-storey 3-bay range, irregularly fenestrated, with 4 windows at 1st floor, has a blocked square-headed C17 doorway with chamfered surround at the junction of the 2nd and 3rd bays; an inserted C19 doorway to the 1st bay and an inserted window to the right of this; coupled 12-pane sashed windows in the 2nd bay with a chamfered mullion and incorporating the left jamb of a formerly smaller window, a semi-basement window to the left of these and the jamb of a former window above this; a 3-light double-chamfered 3-light mullioned window in the 3rd bay; and at 1st floor a 2-light mullioned window to the left (vertically aligned with the basement window), and coupled square 16-pane sashes in the 2nd and 3rd bays, the former with a timber sill. Attached at the west gable is an added cart shed which is not of special interest). The rear, of 2 lower storeys, has recessed mullioned windows on both floors of the 2nd and 3rd bays, those at ground floor both of 3 lights, with hood-moulds, and those above of 3 and 4 lights; an inserted doorway to the 3rd bay; an added outshut at the junction of the 1st and 2nd bays covering a C17 square-headed doorway with chamfered surround, and small-paned sashed windows to the right of this. The C19 addition, of 2 higher storeys, has a symmetrical 3-window east front in Jacobean style with a central doorway and 2-light mullioned windows furnished with 8-pane sashes, all these openings
having hood-moulds. A long single-storey outbuilding attached at right-angles to the north side at the junction of the 2 builds is not of special interest). INTERIOR: mostly remodelled in C19, but retains some beams with small chamfer. Forms group with barn approximately 50m west (qv).
