GV II
Grain warehouse. c1860, with mid and late C20 alterations, restored 1994. Brick with stone dressings and slate roof. Blue brick plinth, coped gables with kneelers. 4 storeys; 9 x 3 windows. Windows are mainly segment-headed cast-iron glazing bar casements. Wharf side has 9 windows on each floor and on the ground floor, 4 windows, flanked to left by 2 cart openings and to right by a single one. All these have steel lintels. Left gable has 3 windows to each floor. In the gable, a single window. Right gable has similar fenestration. On the canal side, irregular ground floor openings covered by a full width canopy with corrugated iron roof. Above this, 2 gabled weatherboarded full height sack hoist towers. To right, an articulated steel bulk grain elevator with a slated gable canopy. INTERIOR not inspected. This building was designed for the dry transfer of grain from boat to warehouse.
