TOWN OF DONCASTER
ST SEPULCHRE GATE (east side)
Nos 33 and 35 (Former Nag's Head)

(Formerly listed as Nag's Head and No 33)

II

Shop and former public house. c1930. Limestone ashlar with polished black granite shop front. Roof concealed. Three storeys, single bay. Ground floor has original shop front of black granite, stepped to top. Central recessed glazed door of bronze with enamelled medallions to glazing bars. Canted flanking windows with bronze surrounds, above granite plinths. To left a plate glass window with angled head and above a hexagonal opening with scrolled wrought ironwork.

To right a door with similar angled head, original granite now covered by tiling, C20 hood above. Above to centre a wide stepped in recess to both storeys divided by two full height stone mullions. First floor has three tall casement windows within this panel with original art deco metal glazing. Above three square panels, each stepped in five times to small central square. Second floor has three C20 replacement casements to centre and similar flanking windows.

Above again a large projecting panel inscribed 'The Nags Head Hotel'. Panels to either side of central recess form quasi-pilasters with deep fillet to top and frieze above with central horses heads flanked by fluting, stepped capitals to tops. An unusually stylish and complete example of provincial Art Deco.
