LEAMINGTON HASTINGS MAIN STREET SP46NW (West side) 5/92 The Manor House 04/12/51 (Formerly listed as Manor House) GV II Manor house. Early C17. Alterations and additions early/mid C19 and mid/late C19. Early/mid C19 cross wing to left of limestone ashlar with alternating narrow courses of contrasting stone and large sandstone quoins. Central range mainly of brick. Porch has first floor of coursed lias/limestone. Right wing of regular coursed lias/limestone; right return side has upper part of C19 yellow brick. Rear mainly of lias/limestone. Old tile roofs; stone external stacks; C19 brick shafts, ridge and end stacks. Complex L-plan with wing on right and cross wing on left, and ranges to rear. 2 storeys and attic; 5-window range. Irregular front. Recessed porch has wide shallow double-chamfered brick Tudor-arch. Double-leaf part-glazed flush 6-panelled door in simple moulded wood surround. First floor has 2-light recessed chamfered stone mullioned window with hood mould. Coped parapet with ball finial on right. Gabled cross wing has C19 wood mullioned and transomed 3-light window with horizontal glazing bar, stone lintel and hood mould. First floor has narrow yellow brick external stack on moulded stone corbel. Central range has large central external stack of alternating courses of sandstone and limestone. Gablet and yellow brick square shafts. Flanking 2-storey, 2-light chamfered mullioned windows have 2 transoms, on left with brick surround and flat arch. 2 small roof dormers have 2-light leaded casement on left and C20 window on right. 2-window right wing is mostly mid/late C19. Sandstone quoins and gable to left. Moulded mullioned and transomed windows have wood round-arched lights and patterned leading. Shallow moulded projection with crested top on left has cross window with lozenge above. 3-light window. First floor has cross and 2-light mullioned windows. Gables throughout have pierced bargeboards. Left return side of cross wing is a 4-window range. flood mullioned and transomed windows, on ground floor similar to front. First floor has 3-light and central cross windows. C20 louvred shutters. To rear: irregular wing of 3 storeys on left, and with 2 gabled ranges to right. Open fronted porch has simple Tudor arch. Fielded 8-panelled door. Leaded casements. Interior: room to left has marble fireplace with Ionic columns. Room to right opened up to 2 storeys. Lower part has early C18 painted panelling with large panels, fluted pilasters and 4-panelled doors, C19 Tudor-arched fireplace. Upper part has C17 style panelling. Long early/mid C18 open well staircase, said to be from a house in Derby, has scrolled string and column, barley sugar and twist balusters to each tread. Balustrade also has some panelling. Wreathed handrail with column newel.
