House
GV II
Threshing barn with hay loft and shippon. Early C18 with early
C19 extensions. Roughly coursed sandstone rubble, the later
portion more regularly coursed and watershot, with
through-stones; stone slate roofs. East-west axis, facing
south, with the later portion added to the west end, and
lean-to additions to the rear. The main range has a large
wagon doorway to the 2nd bay, with a weathered lintel, (and a
smaller wagon doorway opposed to it in the rear wall, now
blocked); a doorway to the left, and 2 slit breathers above
this. This side of the addition to the left has similar slit
breathers; the gable wall has a doorway with a huge
semicircular lintel (perhaps a former millstone). Later
additions to rear have lean-to and catslide roofs
respectively. INTERIOR: older portion has trenched purlin
roof, later portion has queen-strut roof. Forms group with
Swarth Gill house (qv).
