Former men's hostel. 1894. Red brick and terracotta with Welsh slate roof. U-shaped plan of 3-storeyed accommodation wings plus attics, wrapped around single-storey central entrance. Entrance has round-headed doorway flanked by a round-headed window to either side with moulded string course over. Above is a large raised gable and parapet with moulded copings and moulded terracotta heraldic panel inscribed 'Salford Corporation Model Lodging House'. Each wing has a range of 3 windows to first and second floor and 4 to ground and gabled attic floors. Corbelled cornice over second floor continues across inner return elevations. On inner bay of each return, advanced full-height coped gable with stressed pilasters linked by relieving arch below gable apex, which terminates in stack. Salford House is linked to No.6, the former manager's house: also red brick with Welsh slate roof. 3-storeyed, gable facing street with sash window on each floor. INTERIOR not inspected.
