Summary
First World War memorial, amended after the Second World War.
Reasons for Designation
The Haselbury Plucknett War Memorial is listed at Grade II for the following principal reasons:
* Historic interest: as an eloquent witness to the tragic impact of world events on the local community, and the sacrifice it made in the conflicts of the C20;
* Architectural interest: it is an elegant cruciform design with good-quality carved detailing;
* Group value: it has strong group value with the Church of St Michael and All Angels (Grade II*) and with a collection of listed tombs within the churchyard (all Grade II).
History
The war memorial was erected in the churchyard of the Church of St Michael and All Angels, Haselbury Plucknett (listed at Grade II*), after the end of the First World War to commemorate twelve members of the parish who died during the conflict. Three further names were later added of parishioners who died during the Second World War.
