Battle of Adwalton Moor, 1643 Consultation

We are currently considering publishing a revised List entry on the Register of Historic Battlefields for the Battle of Adwalton Moor 1643. With the exception of Marston Moor, this was the most important battle fought north of the River Trent in the first Civil War.

A large area of common land to the south east of the existing registered area is proposed for inclusion. This area is now thought to have seen action in battle, but was not included in 1995 when the battlefield was first registered. Another area is proposed to be removed. This area includes a small industrial estate developed since the battlefield was registered and two areas of 20th century housing.

A map showing the existing boundary of the registered battlefield and the revised boundary can be found in the Consultation Report below.

If you have any comments to make on the factual details outlined in the Consultation Report then please send them to Historic England by 25 August 2017.
