Official Statistics and Research Programmes

Historic England is an official provider of statistics on the historic environment: this includes designated assets and Heritage at Risk. Further research on these data is also commissioned to better understand the historic environment.

We also work with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) to produce the Taking Part Survey:

  • The Taking Part Survey measures participation in the historic environment and has been collecting data since 2005/06. It is managed by DCMS.

  • Taking Part also collects data for museums, libraries, arts and sport engagement.

CASE research programmes

CASE is a programme of strategic research which collects cross-cutting social and economic evidence to influence culture and sport policy.
