TREE-RING STUDIES IN THE SOMERSET LEVELS: THE MEARE AND GLASTONBURY VILLAGES.
Author(s): R A Morgan
A further 7 wood samples from Meare Villages and 2 from the Glastonbury settlement have been added to those already used for tree-ring studies, in the hope of absolute dating. The short ring series from the Meare wood could not be correlated to the short (53 year) floating chronology already established, nor could any match be found for the Glastonbury patterns. The heavily worked nature of the wood and the length of occupation suggest that radiocarbon dating is the most suitable dating is the most suitable dating method for the villages.
