OPERATOR CONSISTENCY IN READING VERNIER CALLIPERS - A FIELD TRIAL.

Author(s): T P O'Connor

The results are presented of an experiment designed to test the consistency with which integers are read from a vernier caliper scale by different operators. The experiment showed a marked 'rounding' bias by each of the three operators, and comparison with older datasets suggested the bias to have developed through habituation. The bias is not thought to be a significant constraint on the use of biometrical data.
