SOIL REPORT ON REDFEARNS GLASSWORKS YORK.

Author(s): R I Macphail

Three thin sections of the base of the sequence at Redfearns Glassworks, York, were examined. Relics of the original forest soil cover were identified. Three major fabric types in the thin sections related to (a) a primary phase of a cultivated open field, (b) a dug garden soil developed in an occupation deposit, and (c) traces of a "garden" topsoil brought down by roots or biological activity, perhaps during a time when the garden was not being actively cultivated.
