TREE-RING DATING OF ROMAN TIMBERS FROM ST. PETER'S HILL (PET '81) AND SUNLIGHT WHARF (SUN '86), CITY OF LONDON.

Author(s): J Hillam

The analysis and dating of two groups of oak timbers is described. Both groups date to the late 3rd century, and were felled at the same time. The quality of the crossmatching between the two groups, as well as the visual appearance of the timbers themselves, suggests that the timbers came from the same structure which was constructed in AD 294 or shortly afterwards.
