TREE-RING ANALYSIS OF CLAYDON HOUSE, MIDDLE CLAYDON, BUCKINGHAMSHIRE

Author(s): Ian Tyers

Dendrochronological analysis of some timbers from Claydon House has revealed that timbers felled in AD 756/7 are present in the surviving wing of the building, built by the 2nd Earl, later Lord, Verney. The only timber identified during this analysis as earlier than the surviving structure is a re-used moulded beam of late fifteenth-/early sixteenth-century date.
