TREE-RING ANALYSIS OF OAK TIMBERS FROM ST MARY'S GROVE, STAFFORD, 1980-84.

Timbers from late Saxon and later medieval structures excavated at St Mary's Grove, Stafford, were sampled fortree-ring analysis with a view to providing a more precise dating framework for the site. The study indi- cated that the timbers from the late Saxon well were felled in AD 1007. A terminus post quem of AD 1183 was also obtained for a timber from a medieval cess pit.
