THE EXAMINATION AND CLASSIFICATION OF THE SLAGS AND RESIDUES FROM KILPECK, HEREFORDSHIRE

Author(s): J G McDonnell

Examination of the slags recovered from excavations in the village of Kilpeck showed that iron had been smelted and smithed during the 13-14th centuries. Analyses of the silicate phase in two examples of smithing slag showed that they lacked the typical fayalitic composition.
