POST-ROMAN IMPORTED AMPHORAE FROM CADBURY-CONGRESBURY.

Author(s): D F Williams

A large and important group of potentially post-Roman amphorae were closely studied, some of the sherds being subjected to thin section analysis. The majority of the material belongs to the eastern Mediterranean amphorae types Bi and Bii, with a small number of Biv sherds. No earlier amphorae were recognised and, taking into account the relatively large amount of Phocean Red Slip ware from the site, a date somewhere in the fifth century A.D. seems most likely for this group.
