Derwentcote, Co Durham: archaeological survey report

Author(s): Mark Bowden

In January-March 1990 RCHME undertook an archaeological investigation and analytical field survey of the early and well preserved 18th century steel cementation furnace at Derwentcote, Co Durham. Survey and investigation was undertaken at the request of English Heritage, who had recently purchased the site, to relate the cementation furnace to other historic features on the site. In January 1991 clearance to the south of the furnace revealed further archaeological features, which are described in an appendix.
