THE ANALYSES OF SLAG SAMPLES FROM POTTERNE, WILTSHIRE.

Author(s): J G McDonnell

Material believed to be iron working slag was recovered from possible Bronze Age Contexts. The analyses confirm the slag as iron working slag and show that it derived from the smithing process rather than the smelting process. The first sample was a typical fayalitic slag with a heterogeneous mineral composition. The second, had a high silica content resulting in unusual microstructures.
