Orchard Wood Hillfort, Orchard Portman, Somerset

Author(s): Hazel Riley

Orchard wood hillfort is a univallate hillfort on the north-eastern edge of the Blackdown Hills, ANOB. Remarkably, the site remained undiscovered until 1986. The interior contains many small pits which represent the remains of iron ore trial or extraction pits. The discovery of a new hillfort represents a significant addition to the Iron Age landscape of south-west Somerset.
