ANGLO-SAXON HUMAN REMAINS FROM MUCKING, ESSEX

Author(s): Simon Mays

80 inhumations and 403 cremations were studied by the present writer and demographic data from a further 57 inhumations studied by Powers (nd) have been incorporated in the present report. Due to the aggressive nature of the soil conditions at Mucking the remains from both are recorded in similar fashion. Survival of inhumed and cremated bone is compared as is the quantity and reliability of the data which can be obtained from them.
