ARCHAEOMAGNETIC MEASUREMENTS AT BREAN DOWN, SOMERSET.

Author(s): A J Clark

During the 1986 excavation season at Brean Down, Somerset, archaeomagnetic measurements were made on a hearth and a sediment column at the southern foot of the down. Probably because of subsidence, results from the hearth were of no value. The sediment was shown to have been deposited from about 4700 - 3360 BP, probably extending back to about 5580 BP. Magnetic enhancement suggested periods of human activity about 4560 and 4220 BP, and most strongly about 3830 BP.
