A NOTE ON THE PETROLOGY OF THREE BRONZE AGE SHERDS FROM BREAN DOWN, SOMERSET.

Author(s): D F Williams

Three sherds of Bronze Age pottery from the recent excavations at Brean Down were submitted for a detailed examination in thin section under the petrological microscope. Two of the sherds represent Beaker vessels and these contained frequent pieces of grog (crushed up pottery) common to much of this type of pottery. The third sherd probably represents a Middle Bronze Age vessel and although it contained grog the quantity present was not so great as for the Beaker material, andin addition the fabric was much coarser.
