THE EVIDENCE FOR BELL-FOUNDING AND OTHER TECHNOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES FROM CASTLE RISING, NORFOLK.

Author(s): M P Heyworth

Mould and copper alloy casting waste from a possible early Norman bell casting pit and bell metal melting furnace were examined, together with other samples of possible technological significance. The mould and casting waste were identified as bell mould and bell metal and the interpretation of the bell casting pit was confirmed. Some evidence for lead melting was also found. The other samples were of little technological significance.
