Southern Pennines, Upland and Upland Fringe

The Southern Pennines lie between the northern edge of the Peak District National Park and the southern boundary of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and between the great conurbations of Lancashire and Greater Yorkshire to the west and West Yorkshire to the east. Of the area, 7% is defined as urban, 59% is under agriculture and 4% is woodland, whilst 18% is designated as Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
