Hull Urban Archaeological Database: Archaeological Plan

Author(s): Humber Archaeology Partnership

An Archaeological Plan covering the local authority area of Hull was a prescribed output of the Hull Urban Archaeological database project undertaken by the Humber Archaeology Partnership between 2019 and 2021. The Urban Archaeological Database project was funded by Historic England. The Archaeological Plan covers the whole of the Hull City Council local authority area, but the Hull Urban Archaeological Database is focused on the Old Town and Garrison-Side areas. The Archaeological Plan provides an explanation of the purpose and format of the Urban Archaeological Database and a strategy for the better long-term management and conservation of heritage assets and the archaeological resource more generally, within the city of Hull. The Archaeological Plan identifies some of the key issues that will impact upon the historic environment in the next few years. Of note is an archaeological characterisation of the Old Town and Garrison-Side areas and suggestions for future research priorities for exploring key themes in Hull’s archaeological record. The Urban Archaeological Database and the Archaeological Plan will provide tools for the better management of below-ground heritage assets and the historic environment in general within the Hull City Council local authority area. Together with greater community involvement in heritage issues, these tools should ensure better conservation of the historic environment in the future and help to meet the challenges that the historic environment will face.
