TREE-RING DATING OF OAK TIMBERS FROM WARREN VILLAS, SANDY, BEDFORDSHIRE, 1990

Author(s): J Hillam

Tree-ring analysis of seven oak timbers from hurdle structures was undertaken to determine whether the waterlogged sections of the site were Roman or medieval in date. The study produced a tree-ring chronology spanning the period AD960-1125. The presence of bark edge on all but one of the samples resulted in the production of exact felling dates, although it is possible that some of the timbers were reused.
