ANALYSIS OF SAMPLES OF COLOURLESS ROMAN VESSEL GLASS FROM LINCOLN

Author(s): C Mortimer, M J Baxter

Fifty-three fragments of colourless Roman vessel glass were analysed by inductively-coupled plasma spectroscopy. Statistical analysis showed only very slight clustering within the first principal component (mainly related to iron content); there is no strong relationship between typological groups and chemical composition. It is recommended that the Lincoln data should be considered further in the context of a larger dataset of analyses from Roman glass.
