AMPHORAE FROM CLARE STREET, LONDON

Author(s): D F Williams

The amphorae is made up mostly of bodysherds and is classified by fabric and form . The proportions of the various forms have been tabu-lated by sherd count. The classification is based on Dressel (1899) and Pelichet (1946), supplemented by descriptive terms in general use (cf. Peacock, 1971: 1974) Peacock and Williams, 1986. A small number of sherds are unassigned. The majority of the amphorae sherds belong either to the Spanish Olive Oil amphora Dressel 20 or to the Gallic wine amphora Pelichet 47. Brief notes on the origins and chronologicalspan of the amphorae are given below. Considered as a whole, this group of amphorae is probably post- Boudiccan in date.
