Deconstruction and Conservation of Roman Armour from the Millennium Excavations, Carlisle

Author(s): J Jones

Soil blocks containing early second century Roman ferrous armour with associated organic material were excavated from anoxic waterlogged levels in Carlisle in 2000. These were deconstructed to recover and stabilise the organic material. Fragments of the partly articulated armour were conserved, and associated mineralised organics examined and analysed.
