TREE-RING STUDIES IN THE SOMERSET LEVELS: BISGROVE'S 1984.

Author(s): R A Morgan

Birch (betula) stems from a brushwood track were aged 12-33 years (average 20), and were 11-65mm in diameter (average 29mm). The figures were very similar to those from a previous assemblage, possibly from the same trackdug in 1980, but the 1984 material was much more uniformand may have been more carefully selected. Some corres-pondence of ring-width pattern could be found between several stems, but comparisons failed to prove whether the two excavations had revealed the same structure.
